OUR STORY
I’m Polly, mum of four boys and founder of The Blue Zebra — a children’s lifestyle store based in the beautiful market town of Sherborne, Dorset.
What started as a small online shop in 2017, inspired by the arrival of my son Jesse, has grown into a much-loved destination for thoughtful, timeless gifts for babies and children. Whether you're shopping online or visiting us in Sherborne, I’m proud to offer a carefully chosen selection of quality toys, clothing, books and accessories that celebrate childhood in all its charm.
Our Sherborne store has become a much-loved part of the local high street. It’s a space where families, friends, and especially grandparents come to find something truly special for the little ones in their lives. While we still serve customers all over the UK through our website, the Sherborne shop gives me a daily connection to the people we’re here for – and I love that.
Each individual Zebra’s stripes are unique to them. Every Zebra is different, just like our gifts and customers!
The name The Blue Zebra came about in a wonderfully playful way – inspired by a pair of stripy blue socks and a conversation with my boys. Just like zebras and their stripes, no two families (or customers!) are the same, and I wanted the name to reflect that sense of individuality, character and fun.
At the heart of The Blue Zebra is a focus on well-made, timeless children’s pieces – traditional toys, organic baby clothing, and story-filled gifts that feel just as special to give as they are to receive. I’m passionate about screen-free play, and much of our toy collection celebrates imagination and hands-on exploration. You’ll find beautifully crafted wooden toys, tactile books, soft teddies and playtime essentials made for tiny hands.
Clothing is another big part of what we do. I choose brands that value quality, comfort and sustainability – with lots of organic cotton, gender-neutral styles, and designs made to be passed down. Whether it’s a soft baby vest, a party dress, or a cosy jumper, I look for pieces that can become part of a child’s story.
As a parent, I know how important it is to buy items that last – both practically and emotionally. That’s why so many of our bestsellers are classic gifts that evoke memories across generations. I love hearing stories from grandparents who visit the shop looking for something “just like the toys they had growing up.” These customers are a big part of our community, and I’m always here to help them find something their grandchildren will love.
Everything in the shop is chosen by me – with the same care I’d give if I were shopping for my own family. I only stock what I genuinely love, and it means the world to know that our gifts go on to be part of such special moments.
