There is something about a robin that has always felt a little bit magical to me.
Perhaps it is their confidence. Their curiosity. The way such a tiny bird can appear so close, almost as though they have come to see what you are doing.
For me, robins have always carried a deeper meaning too. Like so many people, I have come to associate them with those we have loved and lost. There is something incredibly comforting about seeing a little robin appear unexpectedly, especially in a moment when someone you miss is on your mind.
And perhaps that is why I notice them so much.
Quite often, when I am walking my dogs down the track, there is a little robin who seems to follow us. Popping in and out of the hedge, hopping along the branches and somehow keeping pace with us as we walk. I know it is probably simply going about its little robin business, but I can't help feeling that there is something rather special about those moments.
It is these small, everyday moments of wonder that inspired our Enchanted Robin Dress and Romper.
Not simply a Christmas outfit.
Not something that should be brought out once a year and carefully packed away again.
But a beautiful autumn and winter piece, designed to be worn, enjoyed and loved throughout the season.
A robin for little ones to discover
When I began designing the Enchanted Robin collection, I wanted the embroidery to feel special without being overly festive.
Across the chest of the dress and romper is a beautifully smocked panel, embroidered with a delicate robin and holly. It is a traditional, storybook-inspired design that feels perfectly at home during the festive season, but just as naturally belongs amongst the golden leaves of autumn, winter walks and cosy afternoons at home.
The embroidery across the chest is there for everyone to admire.
But then there is another little detail.
A secret robin, tucked into the smocked cuff.
A tiny embroidered friend for your little one to discover.
It is perhaps my favourite detail of the whole collection.
There is something lovely about imagining a little girl or boy discovering their robin for themselves, looking down at their sleeve and finding this tiny character waiting there.
A little companion.
A little piece of magic.
And a reminder that sometimes the most special details are the ones that aren't immediately noticed.
The Enchanted Robin Dress
The dress is rooted in the traditional children's clothing I have always loved — classic shapes, beautiful fabrics and details that feel timeless rather than fleeting.
Made from soft fine pin corduroy in deep navy, it has a beautifully traditional silhouette, with a crisp Peter Pan collar and gently gathered skirt.
The smocked bodice runs from armhole to armhole, creating a beautiful structured feature across the chest, with the embroidered robin and holly sitting at its centre.
The skirt falls softly below the knee, giving the dress that wonderful heirloom quality that feels just as appropriate for a special occasion as it does for an ordinary winter day.
It is fully lined in soft white cotton poplin for comfort, with fabric-covered buttons running down the back and a sash at the waist that can be tied into a bow.
There is something about a little girl in a traditional corduroy dress that feels timeless.
The sort of clothing that photographs beautifully, but is also meant to be lived in.
To be worn to Christmas lunch, yes.
But also to Sunday lunch with grandparents.
To a winter walk.
To a family gathering.
To a birthday.
To the occasions that aren't occasions at all.
Because those are often the moments we remember most.
The Enchanted Robin Romper
For the smallest members of the family, the Enchanted Robin Romper brings the same story to life in a wonderfully traditional baby silhouette.
Crafted from soft navy pin corduroy, the romper has a gently gathered body, long sleeves and softly smocked cuffs, allowing little ones to crawl, wriggle and explore comfortably.
The embroidered robin and holly sit proudly across the smocked chest beneath a classic Peter Pan collar.
And then, hidden within the cuff, is that tiny robin.
The little friend that gives the romper its name.
Practical details have been carefully considered too, with poppers at the back neck and along the inner legs making dressing and changing easier, while elasticated ankle cuffs keep everything comfortably in place.
It is traditional clothing, but made for real little lives.
For crawling across sitting rooms.
For being cuddled by grandparents.
For muddy autumn walks and chilly winter afternoons.
For Christmas mornings and completely ordinary Tuesdays.
More than a Christmas outfit
I think there is something particularly special about designing children's clothing that doesn't belong to just one moment.
Christmas comes and goes so quickly.
The excitement, the decorations, the presents, the photographs — and then suddenly the tree is down and January has arrived.
I wanted the Enchanted Robin to stay.
I wanted it to belong to the whole season.
To autumn leaves and winter gardens.
To November walks and December celebrations.
To January afternoons and February birthdays.
To be something that can be reached for again and again because it is beautiful, comfortable and meaningful.
The robin may be particularly loved at Christmas, but it is also a symbol of something much more enduring.
Memory.
Love.
Comfort.
And the little signs we sometimes choose to believe are sent to us by those we miss.
Perhaps that is why the robin feels so perfectly suited to children's clothing.
There is something wonderfully innocent about a little child discovering the world, just as a robin does — curious, fearless and completely captivated by the smallest things.
A bird in a hedge.
A fallen leaf.
A puddle.
A tiny embroidered friend hidden inside a cuff.
Made for memories
Ultimately, that is what I want our children's clothing to be about.
Not simply what they wear, but the memories created while they are wearing it.
The photograph that gets framed.
The Christmas morning that is remembered years later.
The walk where they stopped to look at a robin.
The dress that was handed down to a younger sibling.
The little romper kept carefully in a memory box long after they have grown out of it.
